Baby Owls Hatched In 2008

In the middle of June 2008 our pair of Kookaburras, housed close to our flying area, became parents when two of their eggs hatched. One of the pair was subsequently rehomed at another centre, the young bird remaining at The Raptor Foundation has been named "Kookaburra Dundee" or just Dundee for short, and is now part of our flying team, watched proudly (and noisily) by both of his parents. The following pictures show him growing up.

Less than two weeks after the Kookaburras hatched, we had 2 baby Barn Owls hatch, the following pictures show the progress of one of them to date.

On August 15th, they were both fitted with anklets & jesses and are now being introduced to the public. In due course they will become part of our flying team, allowing some of the older members of the team to retire.

New Species Arrived February 2008

In February 2008, we collected several new birds from a recently closed centre. These include four new species for The Raptor Foundation, bringing the current total number of different species of raptor at the centre to 46. We are hoping that you will be able to see all four new species on our flying displays in the near future.

The new species are the Turkey Vulture, the Crested Caracara, the Forsters Caracara & the Burrowing Owl.
